Pallieteren

Picture 46.jpg"Pallieteren" is a way of life. It stands for carefree enjoyment, for relaxing from day-to-day worries, for seizing the day, just like the character Pallieter in Felix Timmermans' most famous work. "Pallieterland" (i.e. the area encompassing Lier, Heist-op-den-Berg, Berlaar, Nijlen and Putte) seems to hold all the winning cards: the picturesque town of Lier, the green and idyllic countryside along the Nete river and, of course, the numerous hotels, restaurants and pubs with lots of character scattered all over the countryside.
"Pallieterland" has a lot to offer those who enjoy walking and cycling. Go for a stroll through the town centre of Lier, follow the meandering Nete river till you reach the charming town of Gestel, discover Kruiskensberg and the church square of Heist-op-den-Berg or enjoy the vast meadows and woodlands of Putte. And true to the bon vivant mentality of Pallieter you will surely enjoy finishing off your day with a good meal and a beer! The hotels, restaurants and pubs you will encounter along your journey will be pleased to provide a place to rest your weary feet and to enjoy the regional beer called "De Liter van Pallieter".
